Andy Murray will be given until the last minute to make a call on his Davis Cup quarter-final participation.

Great Britain are scheduled to take on France in the tie from April 7, with the clay surface at Rouen announced yesterday as the venue for the clash.

Tomorrow will mark a month since Murray’s last competitive match, a surprise fourth-round Australian Open defeat by Mischa Zverev, but the world No1 returns to action on Monday in the Dubai Duty Free Championships.

He is then scheduled to play Indian Wells and the Miami Open. Should he reach the final of the latter — just five days before the Davis Cup starts — it would give him little time to prepare for playing on the clay surface.

A spokesman for Murray today told Standard Sport that “no decision has been taken as yet”, but pointed to the fact the player had been “broadly positive on it a few weeks ago”.

Earlier this month, Murray said he was hopeful of playing in the tie but the Scot’s camp now says that depends on how things go in the US.
