Oi, Nasser, get your Jaguar off my Oval

Harcharan Chandhoke13 April 2012

Nasser Hussain arrived at The Oval this morning for the start of today's decisive Fourth Test against India and won his first battle of the day - with the attendant on the Hobbs gates.

The man in the white coat waved the England captain's Jaguar through the iron gates with scarcely a murmur after receiving a dressing down from his employers on Wednesday for refusing Hussain entry to the car park.

Hussain had arrived for net practice and was amazed to be told that he wasn't allowed to drive his car into the ground even though it was almost empty. The gate was shut in front of his car and he was informed that all players were required to park round the side.

Hussain responded with the sort of verbal blast that might have made even Roy Keane blush. "This is a f****** disgrace," he said, marching into the ground and demanding to see Surrey's chief executive Paul Sheldon.

As Hussain went in search of arbitration, the offending gateman was heard to mutter to his colleague: "That's typical of him. I've heard stories about his behaviour. Who does he think he is?" Er, England captain, actually.

Hussain eventually won through - hopefully an omen for today - and was allowed to park in the empty spaces.
