New deal for O'Dea

12 April 2012

Celtic defender Darren O'Dea has signed a new deal with the Parkhead club.

The new contract will run until the end of season 2009/10 with the Bank of Scotland Premier League champions and will have an option for a further year.

The 20-year-old Irishman made his debut against St Mirren in the CIS Insurance Cup in September and has made 16 appearances this season, scoring three goals.

O'Dea - who has come through the Celtic youth system - has been rewarded with a new deal after a promising start to his Parkhead career, which has seen him fill in at various times in the centre of the Hoops' defence.

His Champions League debut came against against FC Copenhagen in December when he came on as a second-half substitute for Stephen McManus and he made his first start in the tournament against AC Milan in the San Siro last week.

O'Dea was outstanding in the second leg of their last-16 clash, although the Parkhead side went out 1-0 on aggregate after an extra-time winner from Kaka.
