Mourinho fed up with the silent treatment

Make some noise: Mourinho is fed up with Chelsea's fans being outsung at Stamford Bridge
14 April 2012

Jose Mourinho has criticised Chelsea's silent supporters and demanded to know why they are consistently outsung by a few thousand away fans.

Mourinho has been baffled by the lukewarm atmosphere inside Stamford Bridge as his team demolished Aston Villa and Watford in the last two games.

Both visiting teams have been thrashed 4-0 by the champions but their fans have taunted the home side with chants of: "Four-nil and you still don't sing!" It struck a nerve and provoked an angry response from Mourinho, who delivered a verbal lashing to his own fans.

He is fiercely proud of his record of not losing a single League game at home since he arrived in the summer of 2004 and insists his players deserve better vocal backing.

Mourinho said: "Let's start with a song I heard from away fans in two consecutive matches at home: 'Four-nil, and you still don't sing!' Why don't they sing? They're always quiet.

"For a team with this record at home, I think the players deserve a little bit more support. I'm not happy when 1,500 away fans, maximum 3,000, support more than our own people. So please, a bit more.

"I think our friends are just behind the goal because they support all the time. The other people must be enjoying the game. They have to participate more and be more enthusiastic about the game.

"It's getting cold now. It's winter and to sing and to move is good to fight against the temperature." Chelsea gave a flag to every fan at the Barcelona game, last month, and created a sea of blue and white inside the ground. They beat the European champions 1-0 and Mourinho aid: "Barcelona was the game but they can do it, even without the flags."
