Morgan charged by FA

12 April 2012

Sheffield United captain Chris Morgan has been charged with violent conduct by the Football Association.

The charge against the 29-year-old defender relates to an incident involving Robin van Persie, when the Blades player appeared to strike the Arsenal forward out of sight of match referee Alan Wiley in Saturday's Barclays Premiership match at Bramall Lane.

Morgan has until 6pm on Thursday to respond to the charge and a disciplinary commission will consider the case on Friday.

The centre-back was on the receiving end of a punch earlier this season, with Wigan's Lee McCulloch banned for three games for hitting the former Barnsley player.

Blades chairman Terry Robinson later said on the club`s official website, www.sufc.co.uk: "It is most likely that Chris will appeal against this decision with the support of the club.

"The incident was seen by many in the ground and on television but in comparison with the incidents in our recent games against Aston Villa and Wigan was relatively trivial.

"The club will re-assess the video and make a final decision on Thursday.

"Whilst Sheffield United do no condone this sort of behaviour, we cannot reconcile this incident with violent conduct."
