Millwall get 'lucky' dressing room

14 April 2012

Millwall will occupy the 'lucky' north dressing-room at the Millennium Stadium for the FA Cup final against Manchester United on May 22.

The first 11 major cup and play-off matches played at the venue were won by a team from the north dressing-room.

The hoodoo was broken by Stoke City when they won the Division Two play-off final by beating Brentford in Cardiff two years ago.

But First Division underdogs Millwall hope to revive the tradition against United after reaching the final the first time by beating Sunderland 1-0 at Old Trafford.

Goalscorer Tim Cahill scooped the FA Cup Player of the Round award from the Football Association this week for his matchwinner in that game.

Cahill told theFA.com: "I'm honoured that so many fans have voted for me. To beat the likes of Paul Scholes and Wes Brown, not to mention Darren Ward, is a thrill.

"It was the highlight of my career to score the winning goal which took Millwall through to our first ever FA Cup final. It's the sort of thing you dream about as a kid.

"Although this award has been given to me, I want to accept it on behalf of the whole team, because it was a tremendous team effort which got us through.

"We are all really looking forward to May 22 and being part of one of the greatest sporting occasions in the world."
