Millar wants more than small slice of fame

13 April 2012

Britain's brightest prospect David Millar may never win the Tour de France but he is not content to be remembered as a time trial specialist.

Millar, 25, shot to prominence in the 2000 Tour by beating American Lance Armstrong into second place in the prologue but now he wants more.

"I'm not capable of winning the overall race but I won't be content with only winning prologues," Millar said as he prepared for Saturday's start of this year's Tour in Luxembourg.

"I believe I have improved a lot on the climbs.

"It's true that I'm a time trial specialist but when I was in the amateur ranks I was very versatile."

But Millar believes that, three-times winner Armstrong is unbeatable. "He's going to win the Tour again. It would take a very odd script for him to lose," he said.
