McLaren have denied rumours of talks over possible investment from Apple.

Reports had cited three separate sources claiming talks were ongoing between the US technology giant and the Woking-based car company — which also runs the McLaren Formula One team.

The discussions were said to be a prelude for Apple gaining access to automotive technology with a view to developing a self-driving car for the mass market.

However, McLaren have dismissed the reports, saying: “We can confirm that McLaren is not in discussion with Apple in respect of any potential investment.”

The F1 giants have not, however, denied that they have received an approach and admitted that they hold "confidential conversations with a wide range of parties, but we keep them confidential.”

Apple are believed to be keen to enter the car industry in some capacity, including the manufacturing of electric-car charging stations, but have so far refused to "comment on rumours or speculation".

Speculation comes less than two weeks after US media conglomerate Liberty Media agreed to buy Formula 1 in a £6billion deal.
