McDermott spells it out for Quins

12 April 2012

Harlequins coach Brian McDermott admits he is concerned about his team's inability to play for the full 80 minutes after they missed their chance to go top of the engage Super League.

A fortnight after frittering away a 14-0 lead against Salford, the Londoners allowed Warrington to come 12-0 down to beat them 19-12 at the Twickenham Stoop and condemn them to their first defeat of the season.

"It's the third week on the bounce where I've got issues about our second-half performance," said McDermott. "We were poor at Hull KR last week after the break as well but I'm not panicking."

Early tries from Matt Gafa and Scott Hill had given Quins the ideal start but Warrington's New Zealand winger Henry Fa'afili turned the contest upside down with a try either side of the break.

Martin Gleeson and Stuart Reardon also scored tries as the Wolves gained their third win from four matches to draw level at the top with Bradford and surprise packet Hull KR.

While McDermott will work on his team's second-half performances, Warrington coach Paul Cullen is determined to improve the way his side start matches.

"We played some good rugby after the first 15 minutes - we never entered the Quins half until the 17th minute and within 30 seconds of being down there we scored a try," said Cullen, whose side take on St Helens in their next match on Friday night.

"It's great to go to the top but I'm not overly concerned with the league table because I'm not overly satisfied with this performance.

"We'll be working hard on our opening 15 minutes of matches in training this week."
