McDermott grounded after Wigan upset

Although delighted with the result, Harlequins coach Brian McDermott does not believe his side's stunning 38-26 victory over Engage Super League leaders Wigan was a landmark success.

The Londoners turned the table upside down by coming from 24-6 down at half-time to run in five unanswered second-half tries against the injury-hit Warriors and collect only their second league win of the season.

"It's an important result for us but I don't think it's the make or break of London rugby league," he said.

"There are some incredible things going on in London and I don't think that performance means it's any more special and, if we had lost, it wouldn't have made it any less special."

Luke Dorn, a prolific scorer from stand-off in his first spell with the London club, sparked the revival with two tries in 10 minutes at the start of the second half after being switched to full-back and captain Rob Purdham clinched the victory with his first try of 2010.

It is no coincidence that both experienced players missed the first two months of the season after undergoing major shoulder surgery and their team-mates struggled badly in their absence.

"There are some creditable reasons why we are bottom of the league," said McDermott.

"If you go through the first third of the season without Rob Purdham, Karl Temata, Luke Dorn, Luke Gale, Ryan Esders and Andy Ellis, it becomes hard."
