McClennan hails rampant Rhinos

12 April 2012

Leeds coach Brian McClennan paid a rich tribute to his side after they destroyed Wakefield in a 10-try romp to surge seven points clear at the engage Super League summit.

Danny McGuire stole the show with another hat-trick and Kevin Sinfield's seven goals saw him equal Andy Farrell's record of scoring in 48 successive Super League rounds as Leeds ran out 58-12 winners.

McClennan said: "It was a case of well done to all the players and good to consolidate our position at the top of the table."

He added: "It was one of my easiest half-time team talks. I just said 'keep doing what you're doing' and I felt a little sorry for Wakefield because it all happened so quickly and is hard to stop.

"They were trying very hard but this Leeds side is so quick and they can break away really quickly."

McClennan reserved praise for McGuire, who again showcased his try-scoring capabilities in the most devastating fashion.

The Rhinos coach continued: "That's Danny isn't it? He's Jonny on the spot and has got terrific anticipation. He adds to the side and it was another good effort."

Sinfield's exploits earned him a place in Super League folklore alongside Farrell, an icon of the sport who achieved the feat with Wigan between May 1997 and May 1999 but who now looks certain to be surpassed by the Rhinos captain.

McClennan added: "Kevin is held in high regard at this club by all the players. He's a tremendous skipper and a tremendous person.

"It's his testimonial year this year and it's going along great for him. But Kev always does well for us."
