Lyon make it three

13 April 2012

Lyon wrapped up their third successive French title yesterday with a 3-0 victory over Lille.

Sidney Govou opened the scoring at the Stade Gerland in the 39th minute for the champions.

Mahamadou Diarra then doubled the lead from the penalty spot six minutes after the break before Peguy Luyindula completed the scoring in the 71st minute.

At the other end of the table, Le Mans and Guingamp were relegated to the Second Division, joining Montpellier who were already down before the final day of the season.

Le Mans suffered the drop despite beating Lens 3-0 while Guingamp, who started the day clear of the drop zone, were relegated after they lost 2-1 at UEFA Cup finalsts Marseille and Ajaccio won 3-1 at home to Metz.
