Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists he has no fears about a hostile welcome from Liverpool fans on Sunday – and has told his Manchester United players to embrace Anfield.

Pep Guardiola and his players were pelted with objects and flairs as their team coach arrived at the stadium.

The vehicle was so badly damaged that City had to arrange alternative transport home.

The actions were roundly condemned – but fans on social media have called for Solskjaer’s side to be given another intimidating reception.

But United’s manager has dismissed any concerns.

He said: “There are no safety fears, but of course they want to try to intimidate us. But as long as it’s within the boundaries.

“I’ve been sat in a coach or bus going to Europe or to Anfield and whatever they shout and scream you don’t really notice, that’s just part and parcel of these games.

“I’ve had both wins and defeats there as a player at Anfield so you’ve got to look forward to these games.

“It’’s a great challenge for our players to play against the leaders of the league. We’ve done well against them the last couple of times, but away at Anfield is another matter.

“You can make sure you enjoy it, but it can also be an intimidating place. But then we’ve got to do all the preparations as well as we can. Some of these young players will be playing at Anfield probably for the first time. I’m sure they will be fine.”

One of those is Brandon Williams, who has been one of the bright sparks for United this season.

Solskjaer says he has no concerns about the 19-year-old.

“Does it look like I need to speak to him?” he added. “I don’t think so. I think he’s been absolutely outstanding since he came in, every challenge we’ve put in front of him he’s tackled head on.

“He’s only 19, made 10 or 11 starts, but he reminds me so much of the mentality of Gary Neville and I think he’ll enjoy going to Anfield, to put it that way.”
