Lewington lands Jackson on loan

Tottenham midfielder Johnnie Jackson and Wolves goalkeeper Paul Jones have joined Watford on a month's loan.

Ray Lewington is delighted to have secured the services of two players with Premiership experience ahead of the festive period as he struggles to cope with injuries to his thin squad.

"I have liked Johnnie for a long time," said the Watford manager. "He can play left midfield and central midfield and we are pleased to get him. At this time of the season a lot of clubs don't want to let their players go on loans. We got lucky on this one."

Jones, who has been out of favour at Molineux, will ease Watford's goalkeeping crisis after first-choice Richard Lee suffered a fractured cheekbone last Saturday, which will keep him out until March. The only keeper on the books at Vicarage Road is 40-year-old Alec Chamberlain, who is suffering from a hamstring strain.

"Paul is an experienced keeper and I'm pleased to be able to get him at a time when we have lots of games," said Lewington.

The pair could feature in Watford's Boxing Day game at Reading.
