Koenig faces leaders

Sven Koenig and David Nash were back in the Middlesex side to face championship leaders Surrey at Lord's today after sitting out the Twenty20 Cup matches, with Robin Weston and David Alleyne making way.

Surrey recalled Mark Butcher and Alec Stewart in place of Scott Newman and Jon Batty but Alex Tudor remained sidelined by a knee injury and Rikki Clarke was with the England squad.

Essex hoped to have Aftab Habib back against Kent at Chelmsford following his recovery from hamstring problems but John Stephenson was still struggling with an ankle injury.

Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Sami was due to make his championship debut for Kent in the absence of Martin Saggers, who faces a further fortnight on the sidelines following a knee operation.
