Klim swims through the pain

Australia's double Olympic gold medallist Michael Klim overcame a chronic back problem to win the 100 metres freestyle final in the Oceania leg of the swimming World Cup today.

Klim almost pulled out of the race at Melbourne's Aquatic Centre because he was in so much pain.

"It's very painful at the moment but it's something that I'm learning to deal with," he said. Klim's countryman Grant Hackett, who also won two golds in Sydney this summer, won the 400m freestyle final in 3:42.49, nine seconds clear of the field.
