Kerr collects major title

12 April 2012

American Cristie Kerr claimed her first major title when she carded a final-round 70 to win the US Women's Open by two shots at Pine Needles.

World number one Lorena Ochoa, who was chasing her first major, had to settle for a 71 and a tie for second with Brazil's Angela Park.

South Korean duo Se Ri Pak and In-Bee Park finished on two under - three adrift of Kerr.

"It was definitely my day and this is a dream come true," said Kerr, 29.

"I made an unbelievable putt at the 14th (from 18 feet for birdie) and I couldn't be happier."

Ochoa said: "I'm very disappointed - the bogey at the 17th changed everything.

"I tried really hard but it wasn't good enough."
