Kent high and dry

Kent were cut short by the rain as they attempted to close the gap on Glamorgan at the top of the totesport league.

Michael Carberry and Ed Smith shared a superb century opening stand against Essex at Maidstone. Carberry made 76 off only 57 balls while Smith remained unbeaten on 58 when the game was washed out with Kent 168 for two after 27 overs.

The two side are due to meet against this evening in the Twenty20 Cup competition. Today: Totesport League, Div 2 - Richmond: Middlesex v Scotland (1pm). Twenty20 Cup (5.30pm) - Taunton: Somerset v Glamorgan. Luton: Northants v Worcs. Maidstone: Kent v Essex.
