Kear blasts woeful Wildcats

Wakefield coach John Kear labelled his side inept after they crashed to a 52-0 home defeat by Huddersfield.

The Wildcats topped the Engage Super League table after winning their first three matches and Kear admitted Saturday night's 10-try hammering had come "out of the blue".

"It was a terrible performance," he said. "After the first 30 seconds you could sense something was not right. Our energy levels looked down."

He added: "It came out of the blue. It was very disappointing, very inept. Perhaps the players believed their own publicity a little too much.

"Huddersfield were very slick, very focused and very intense - everything we didn't do they did, and they did it very well."

Huddersfield demonstrated just why they had the best defence in the League in 2009 by producing a second clean sheet in three games, but they also managed to turn on the style by scoring some scintillating tries, including two for ex-Wildcats favourite Scott Grix.

The performance lifted the Giants up to third place in the table and delighted coach Nathan Brown, who also had some sympathy for his counterpart.

"It was a good result," said Brown. "I get a lot of satisfaction for the players but I feel for Keary too.

"As a coach, as much as you love having a good win, I've been on the other side of a 50-nil and you do feel for the other coach."
