Kaufman warns of 'new Dome'

The Wembley fiasco and plans for a new national athletics stadium at Picketts Lock are to be investigated by a Commons committee.

The Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee will look at the two schemes when MPs return to the Commons in October.

And today Select Committee chairman Gerald Kaufman warned Picketts Lock could become the Millennium Dome of Labour's second term.

"The Government got into problems over the Millennium Dome. I don't want to see that happen to this project," said Kaufman.
