Kafer: ref blew it

14 April 2012

Rod Kafer was frustrated with the performance of referee Steve Leyshon, who blew for full-time rather than awarding Saracens a penalty a metre short of the line under the posts at the death in their 22-18 defeat against Northampton yesterday.

'I thought Northampton played very well and Saracens played very well and apart from that there was a big hole in the game.' said the Sarries head coach.

Saracens are still in the hunt for a place in the Zurich wildcard play-off but need to turn performances into results.

On Saturday, Wasps stepped up the pressure on Bath by taking maximum points while the Zurich Premiership leaders were taking the weekend off.

Wasps overcame the absence of 11 regulars through injury and England calls to post a 27-20 victory at Rotherham.

Wasps' eighth straight away win was tarnished, though, by the loss of Jonny O'Connor for the rest of the season with a ruptured Achilles while fellow back-rowers Paul Volley and John Hart hurt hamstrings.
