Jol happy to be busy

12 April 2012

Martin Jol has admitted the next three weeks will be a stern test of his squad's strength - but he believes it shows Tottenham are on target this season.

Spurs could face a schedule of seven games in 22 days - providing they defeat Cardiff in next week's FA Cup third-round replay - and after that they will almost be ready to start the knockout stages of the UEFA Cup.

"The only thing I'm happy about is that we're playing all these games, because it means we are doing well and are in all the competitions," admitted Jol.

"It's ideal because that's what we wanted at the start of the season."

With Ledley King ruled out of the Barclays Premiership clash against Newcastle at White Hart Lane, Calum Davenport is again set to partner Michael Dawson in central defence.

Jol has identified the pace of Kieron Dyer and Obafemi Martins as a threat - as shown when Newcastle defeated Spurs at St James' Park last month - but feels his side can cope without King, who has missed the last three games.

"We played Martins in pre-season against Inter Milan. Davenport played and did well," said Jol.

"They've got the pace with Dyer and Martins but I can't ask Ledley King to come on with his Lamborghini on the pitch and try to stay with them."
