Jewell fined and banned for referee outburst

14 April 2012

Jewell reacted furiously at full-time following his side's 2-1 defeat by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on February 11 and has been given the punishment by a Football Association disciplinary commission.

Jewell has until March 30 to respond to a separate charge of improper conduct and/or bringing the game into disrepute regarding his post-match media comments relating to the same game.

An FA statement read: "At a Disciplinary Commission hearing today, Wigan Athletic manager Paul Jewell was given a two-match touchline ban, to be suspended for 12 months. He was also fined £2,000 and warned to his future conduct.

"Jewell had admitted a charge of improper conduct in relation to his behaviour towards referee Phil Dowd following the match at Arsenal on 11 February. The Commission stated that his previous good disciplinary record had been borne into account in reaching their decision.

"He has until March 30 to respond to a separate charge of improper conduct and/or bringing the game into disrepute in relation to his media comments made about Phil Dowd following the same match."
