Irish must dig deep, says Kerr

Evening Standard14 April 2012

Republic of Ireland manager Brian Kerr today warned his players: "Forget pretty, just perform."

Kerr does not mind that any ideas of the beautiful game will disappear tonight when the Republic take on the Faroe Islands on a bumpy pitch at the Torsvollur Stadium. The Faroes are without a win in 15 international games.

"They play a physical, direct game," he said. "Individually we've better, more skillful players and we have to impose ourselves. It doesn't have to be pretty"

Tottenham's Robbie Keane has a shoulder injury and will miss the Group Four qualifier, while Clinton Morrison is doubtful with a back problem. Roy Keane returns from suspension but Andy O'Brien is out after his red card against Israel on Saturday.
