Hughes: We are still in with a shout

13 April 2012

Northern Ireland captain Aaron Hughes insists he is not the only leader in the squad.

Hughes claims the dressing room is full of strong voices and believes they can revive their World Cup campaign by beating San Marino at Windsor Park tonight.

"Everyone in the dressing room motivates himself," said the Fulham defender. "Everyone knows his job and what is expected. I am captain of the side but we have a lot of guys with caps and experience, who have something to say. Even the young lads coming through are not afraid to speak their mind."

Northern Ireland have taken one point from three matches but Hughes claims talk of their demise in Group Three is premature.

He said: "The campaign is by no means over. We are still upbeat."
