Hot run takes Siem to top

13 April 2012

Germany's Marcel Siem moved to the head of the leaderboard in the second round of the Dunhill Championship in Johannesburg today.

The 23-year-old overtook Scotland's Paul Lawrie at 13 under after he shot six birdies in his opening 10 holes.

Siem, who went round in 65 yesterday, parred his first two holes before going on to record five birdies in his next six.

Meanwhile, Lawrie earlier limped his way to a round of 64 to go 12 under.

The Irishman - who was the European Tour's rookie of the year in 2003 - struggled with a painful Achilles tendon problem throughout his round but it did not seem to put him off too much as he posted eight birdies.

"I don't know what happened," he said. "I woke up this morning and my ankle was really painful."
