Holloway has a change of mind

Ian Holloway has decided not to dip into the loan market for a new centre-half ahead of tonight's game against Sheffield United.

The Queens Park Rangers manager had hinted that he might try to bring in a defender when Terrell Forbes became his latest injury victim during Friday's 1-0 win at Gillingham.

But Holloway changed his mind after learning that Matthew Rose would be fit to play at Loftus Road tonight. Dan Shittu and Arthur Gnohere are also close to regaining full fitness.

"We were having a few major issues at centre-half," Holloway said. "It seemed to have become a bit of a jinx position for us. But the injuries are starting to clear up and we've suddenly got a bit of strength in depth. That's important because too many of my players think they have their place guaranteed."

He was delighted with new signing Georges Santos at Gillingham after the former Ipswich player had been criticised for some performances.

"I think our fans should be a little less hasty to judge," he said. "We've come through a sticky patch. I always thought it would take us six to eight games to adjust to the new division. Hopefully, we've done that now."
