Hernan makes a point

14 April 2012

Chelsea's Hernan Crespo scored for Argentina as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Colombia in a World Cup qualifier last night.

Crespo put Argentina ahead in the 28th minute following a mix-up in the home defence. Goalkeeper Oscar Cordoba attempted to take a quick goal kick but his clearance struck a team-mate on the back of the head and rebounded straight to Crespo.

The striker, on the edge of the penalty area, put the ball into the net with Cordoba desperately trying to regain his ground.

Aston Villa's Juan Pablo Angel equalised for Colombia when he flicked in a corner three minutes into the second half.

Colombia remain bottom of the South American qualifying group with one point from four games, while Argentina moved into second place with eight points.

Top of the table on goal difference are Brazil, who came back to draw 3-3 with Uruguay.

Kaka and Ronaldo gave the Brazilians a 2-0 lead in the first half, but Manchester United striker Diego Forlan scored twice in the second half before Arsenal's Gilberto Silva scored an own-goal to give Uruguay the lead in the 78th minute.

Explaining the own goal, Silva said: "I tried to cut out the ball, then I heard (goalkeeper) Dida saying it was his but the ball struck my head and deflected past him."

Silva's blushes were spared when Ronaldo struck in the 86th minute for his second goal of the match.
