Henman victorious in Basle

14 April 2012

Tim Henman reached the second round of the Davidoff Swiss Indoor Tournament in Basle as he preserved his 100% record against Antony Dupuis.

Henman took a little under an hour and a quarter to win 6-3 6-4 for his third win in as many matches against the Frenchman.

The British number one, top seed following the withdrawal of Wimbledon champion Roger Federer with a muscle injury, was hardly troubled on Centre Court against Dupuis.

After the first three games went with serve Henman, who beat the same opponent during this tournament in 2001 on his way to his second Basle title triumph, broke Dupuis and then matched his opponent as they both held serve before the Briton took the set 6-3.

The first set had taken just half an hour but the second was a more difficult prospect for Henman.

The first six games went with serve and took nearly half an hour as Dupuis made more of a battle of it.

Henman, who has also beaten Dupuis on the grass of Queen's Club in the Stella Artois Championship last year, then broke in game seven for a 4-3 lead in a set which had already lasted as long as the first.

Henman held serve to lead 5-3 and Dupuis was faced with serving to stay in the match.

Dupuis managed to hold serve but Henman then held to win the match 6-3 6-4.
