Go for goals and finish off Forest, Spurs urged

14 April 2012

Tottenham boss Martin Jol will urge his side to go for goals in a bid to see off dogged FA Cup opponents Nottingham Forest tonight.

Gary Megson's team battled hard for a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane nine days ago, but Jol believes Spurs could have finished the Coca-Cola Championship side off if they had scored a second goal before Gareth Taylor's leveller.

Tonight's fifth-round replay at the City Ground should be another hard-fought affair, but Jol will not be going on the defensive as Spurs look to secure a quarter-final trip to Newcastle.
"We have to score probably two goals because after one goal last time they didn't open up," said Jol.
"After two goals they will open up and maybe we will get more space. It will be difficult early on because they won't attack us though."
Andy Reid is cup-tied for the clash against his former team, while Ledley King and Noureddine Naybet are doubts with groin injuries.
Jol is also concerned about the state of Forest's pitch, but he has been impressed with his side's away form and remains confident they can progress.
He added: "We don't have a bad record away. I think our goal record is not very different away.
"If we can keep a clean sheet we will be OK because we can score goals. I'm confident but that doesn't mean anything because it's a one-off."
Striking sensation Mido admitted that Spurs were caught off guard by Forest at White Hart Lane but is confident they will make amends tonight.
He told www.spurs.co.uk: "Yes, I was surprised when I saw the level Nottingham Forest were playing in the last game. They came to Tottenham, played to win and it surprised me.
"They have a good team with quality players and, for me, it is a surprise that they play in a lower division.
"It will be a tough game, I think we made it difficult for ourselves at White Hart Lane and should have won there. Now we have to do our job away, it will be hard but we have to be very strong - as strong as them."
