Zlatan Ibrahimovic is making a sensational return to the Sweden team ahead of this summer’s rescheduled European Championship.

The 39-year-old has not played for his country since Euro 2016, but has now come out of international retirement and been named in the Sweden squad for their World Cup qualifiers in March.

After his return was confirmed, Ibrahimovic tweeted: “The return of the God”.

Ibrahimovic has scored 14 goals for AC Milan in Serie A this season and his recall to the Sweden squad follows talks with coach Janne Andersson.

Andersson ruled out a return for Ibrahimovic when the striker claimed he was interested in coming out of international retirement for the 2018 World Cup.

But Andersson has decided to call up Ibrahimovic for Sweden’s World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Kosovo, as well as the friendly against Estonia.

It raises the tantalising prospect of Ibrahimovic featuring at the Euros this summer. Sweden are in Group E alongside Spain, Poland and Solvakia.
