World Cup Golden Boot not what I came to Russia for, says Harry Kane

Harry Kane could still end up with the Golden Boot, despite his disappointment at England’s defeat to Croatia.

Kane leads Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku six goals to four, while France players Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann are a further strike back heading into Sunday’s final.

But Kane admits the prospect of winning the individual honour feels a bit hollow. “If I get the Golden Boot, I get the Golden Boot, but that wasn’t the trophy I was looking for,” he said.

Kane missed a crucial chance to double England’s lead in the first half, when they were 1-0 up and dominating the game.

The England captain said: “We know we have done everybody proud but we wanted to go on.”

England face Belgium in the third place play-off in St. Petersburg on Saturday, where Kane could have the chance to add to his tally.

However, manager Gareth Southgate may well rest the captain in favour of playing those who have seen little game time in Russia this summer.
