England fans are calling for a parade for the team so they can come "home proud".

Thousands have given their support to a fans' victory parade for the team after they made it to the World Cup semi-final, which they lost 2-1 to Croatia.

Thousands of supporters Gareth Southgate's side took to social media to call for the team to be celebrated with a parade.

The FA has already said it has no plans for an official parade when England flies home after the third place playoff against Belgium.

Lyndsey Sibley wrote: "Well I for one would love a victory parade for the England team...they may not have won...but they have won our hearts."

While a user with the name Steve said: "I think the England team should get a parade, it's not all about winning it's about the feel good factor they created for the country.

"For some reason we only reward winning that just teaches children that you have to win and they miss the pride in taking part."

Following England's defeat in the 1990 World Cup semi-finals, the team were given a parade in Luton.

Hundreds of thousands of supporters lined the streets for an open-topped bus procession.

However the FA said it would not hold a parade for Gareth Southgate's England side as it is keen to avoid setting the wrong example for England's young players.

Should the parade be given the go-ahead it's unclear where and when it would go-ahead.
