William Saliba hints at Marseille stay ahead of ‘discussions’ with Arsenal

William Saliba believes there is a “chance” he could stay at Marseille beyond the end of the season.

The defender, who is yet to make a senior appearance for Arsenal despite joining in 2019, has been in fine form for the Ligue 1 outfit this season, earning a call-up to the French squad.

Saliba, who Mikel Arteta recently praised, has started all but one of his side’s 32 League games this season and could yet finish the campaign with silverware as Marseille prepare for a Europa Conference League semi-final against Feyenoord later this month.

Seemingly enjoying his time with the French giants, Ben White has established himself as a first-choice under Arteta since his big-money move from Brighton alongside Gabriel Magalhães.

As such, the idea of returning to north London only to occupy a back-up role may not exactly sound ideal for the 21-year-old as he continues to star for one of France’s biggest clubs.

“There is always a chance,” he told Le Parisien when asked about staying with Marseille.

“I do not hide that I am very happy in Marseille.

“I have developed, I have passed a milestone. If I make it into France’s squad it’s thanks to Marseille, because there is a lot of visibility.

“They are a very big club with a lot of pressure, but when you’re good there are a lot of good things that happen to you.

“We will see in May or June depending on the discussions. Today, my future, I don’t know what it is.”
