Gianluca Scamacca is undergoing a medical before completing his £30.5million move to West Ham.
The Italian international could be unveiled as the Hammers’ fourth signing of the summer by the end of the day, providing all goes to plan with the routine assessments.
The Hammers struck a deal, which could rise a further £5m with add-ons, with Italian side Sassuolo last week and Scamacca flew to London on Monday evening after agreeing personal terms earlier in the day.
The 23-year-old is set to eventually become the Hammers’ third-most expensive signing ever, after striker Sebastian Haller and midfielder Felipe Anderson.
After missing out on Jesse Lingard to Nottingham Forest and with Chelsea’s stance over Armando Broja still uncertain, there will be relief at the London Stadium at getting the deal over the line as David Moyes seeks to continue his squad revamp having finally secured much-needed competition for Michail Antonio at centre-forward.
Eintracht Frankfurt wing-back Filip Kostic is Moyes’ next target and the club are willing to meet the German side’s asking price, thought to be around £12.75m, but there are fears the Irons will struggle to convince the 29-year-old to give up Champions League football.
Frankfurt qualified for Europe’s top club competition after winning last season’s Europa League, knocking out West Ham in the semi-finals and then beating Rangers in Seville.
Kostic, who shares an agent with Scamacca, has just a year to run on his contract with the German club and may be content to stay put and play Champions League football this term before moving on a lucrative free transfer next summer.
