West Ham striker Diafra Sakho has been ruled out for six weeks with a hamstring injury, the Premier League club has confirmed.

Sakho, who has made just two Premier League appearances this season, picked up the problem in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Manchester United.

The Senegal international was withdrawn in the 66th minute of the game and is now unlikely to feature for Slaven Bilic's first-team until 2017.

A statement on West Ham's official website read: "A scan on Tuesday revealed that the injury will keep him out of contention for up to six weeks.

"Everyone at West Ham United wishes him a speedy recovery and quick return to action."

A six-week timeframe will see Sakho miss a total of seven Premier League fixtures, including clashes with Arsenal, Liverpool, Leicester and United.

Meanwhile, Sakho's absence could see Ashley Fletcher handed an opportunity to lead West Ham's attack in tonight's EFL Cup quarter final at Old Trafford.

Bilic has hinted starting Andy Carroll would be "suicidal", suggesting Fletcher will get the nod against his former employers as the Hammers attempt to reach the last four.
