David Moyes praises 'confident' West Ham after impressive Tottenham draw

David Moyes says his West Ham players have turned a corner in terms of confidence after taking a point from London rivals Tottenham at Wembley.

Playing just 48 hours after their late win over West Brom on Tuesday, the Hammers sat deep against Mauricio Pochettino’s side before Pedro Obiang’s 30-yard stunner - the visitors' first shot on goal - gave them an unexpected lead with 20 minutes to go.

However, Heung-min Son scored an equally impressive leveller 14 minutes later meaning the spoils were shared.

But having taken points from Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham as well as going close at Manchester City under Moyes, the Hammers can afford to look up instead of over their shoulder.

The Scotsman feels his side are starting to gain more self belief, saying: "I think that the confidence is growing because of the results.

"We have arguably, or maybe even are, one of the worst defence [records] in the Premier League. Suddenly we have started to look a bit stronger but there are other games where we have lost goals - three at Bournemouth, three against Newcastle.

"But in the main, I think we might have lost only maybe one in seven or something so we are on a good run, the players are playing with a bit of confidence and certainly feel better about themselves and how they are playing.

"They are disappointed they didn't win it tonight but I think that with the efforts they have put in the last two games, you have to give them a lot of credit."

That confidence was only added to by Obiang’s oustanding strike, and Moyes admitted it was rather unexpected.

He added: "It was disbelief when I saw it go in actually!

"But it was a brilliant strike, it really was. I haven’t really seen him do it in training yet, I’ve to say he’s certainly pulled one out and put us in a good position."
