West Ham’s Andy Carroll has spoken of his desire to make England’s World Cup squad for Brazil this summer.

The last of Carroll’s nine caps came in October 2012 against San Marino but now he is coming back to full fitness following an eight-month injury absence and the player believes he can still make Roy Hodgson’s squad.

“Of course the World Cup is massive and everybody wants to be involved. It’s in my head that there’s still a chance for me to go (to Brazil), and I’d be devastated if I missed out, to be honest.”

The striker marked his return from injury with an assist in last weekend’s vital 2-0 win over Cardiff and is eager to reach the World Cup after enjoying his experience at Euro 2012.

“It was great to be away at the Euros, playing with the best players in Europe. Now I’ve got to work hard and I’ll have a chance of playing with the best in the world.

“That’s a great incentive for me to do as well as I possibly can for West Ham.”

The Hammers signed Carroll on a permanent deal for around £15m in the summer following his successful season-long loan in the previous campaign and the player is focused on putting his injury frustration aside and helping West Ham avoid relegation.

“For me, it’s been tough being out for so long, and it’s been disappointing for the team not doing so well.

“I just want to stay fit, as every player does. I’ve been plagued with injuries, but I’m just going to forget about that now. I’m not going to worry about injuries at all, play in the games and try to do well, create chances, score goals and get us well clear of the bottom.”
