Weak Tottenham defence gives Italian media hope as Serge Aurier is named 'worst player' against Juventus

'Oh dear Juve' | But Gazzetta dello Sport says Tottenham can be beaten

Christian Eriksen was lauded by the Italian media after his superb display against Juventus.

The Dane was given a rating of 7.5 by La Gazzetta dello Sport and was named the best player on the pitch. “A complete player,” wrote journalist Matteo Dalla Vite. “He can hurt you from anywhere.”

But despite the 2-2 scoreline, Gazzetta is optimistic the Italian champions can go through to the last eight.

“Oh dear, Juve. But it’s not over,” read the front-page splash, which also led on boss Max Allegri’s rallying cry. “We refuse to be down about this.”

Their optimism is based around what they see as a weak Spurs defence. Serge Aurier, who fouled Douglas Costa for the penalty that Gonzalo Higuain missed, was given five out of 10 and named Spurs’ worst player.

“With that defence, all Juventus need to do is get into the area and wait. Sooner or later, something will happen,” wrote correspondent Fabio Licari.
