Andre Gray believes his rich vein of form has enabled him to finally gain the respect of Watford fans.

Gray moved to Watford from Burnley in August 2017 for a club-record fee of £18.5million.

The jury was out on the striker after his first season with the club, though, as he ended it with just five goals.

However, the 27-year-old has hit his stride since the turn of the year and his goal in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat by Wolves was his fifth in his last seven home games.

Gray said: “It feels like the fans are really behind me now, which helps me as a player quite a lot.

“I didn’t always feel that [the fans were behind me] last season but I’ve scored some important goals this season and that has really helped.

“Knowing the fans are on your side gives you that edge at times.”
