Watford manager Walter Mazzarri might not start with any of his new signings against Arsenal on Saturday.

Daryl Janmaat arrived on Wednesday from Newcastle for £7.5million, shortly after last week’s recruitment of Younes Kaboul and club-record signing Roberto Pereyra.

But Mazzarri was sufficiently impressed by his existing players’ performances in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat by Chelsea to consider giving that line-up another chance.

“I need to evaluate the new signings,” he said. “They have just arrived and I need to be sure they know what they need to do. And I want to start from the good things we did against Chelsea. It’s nearly impossible that all three will start.”

Mazzarri, who is still pursuing his first victory as Watford manager, would not be drawn on the future of Matej Vydra, who is reportedly a target for Derby. “I have a little input in (his future) but it’s the club who decides,” he said. “I would like to concentrate on that after the game with Arsenal. It all depends on what happens in the next five days.”
