Watch Chelsea fans give John Terry a standing ovation after final game of season against Leicester City

John Terry's connection with the Chelsea fans is obvious to see.

Not only did Blues supporters sing their captain's name in the last two games of the season as they made their stance on his uncertain future at the club clear but, in the final match of the campaign at home to Leicester City, fans made sure they also let the centre-back know how much they want him to stay on another year.

Terry's current contract at Chelsea was due to expire next month but, after the club handed him a one-year extension last week, the 35-year-old revealed he needed time to think about the new offer.

That admission led to Chelsea fans giving Terry a round of applause during the Blues' game against champions Leicester on Sunday before his emergence from the players' tunnel following the full-time whistle resulted in supporters standing up to applaud the defender as they attempted to persuade him to stay.

Standard Sport was there to witness the scenes as Terry then made his way around the pitch with his two children and looked visibly emotional at the show of support by the fans.

His connection with the supporters may have contributed to Terry accepting the one-year deal handed to him by Chelsea, which will take the defender into his 22nd year at the club.

And fans can now re-live the moment that Terry emerged to a standing ovation and chants in the video above.
