Tottenham striker Harry Kane says being the top scorer at the World Cup this summer has given him the confidence to win back the Premier League golden boot.

Kane topped the Premier League scoring charts in 2015/16 and 2016/17, but surrendered his crown to Liverpool's Mo Salah last season.

Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang currently leads the way this campaign with ten goals, but Kane has scored four times in his last five league appearances to move into second place, on nine.

Kane began the season relatively slowly, with just five goals - two of them penalties - in his first ten games, but says his efforts in Russia, where he became only the second Englishman to win a World Cup golden boot, gave him constant belief.

"When you’ve done it on the biggest stage of them all, the World Cup, you can look back and gain confidence from that," Kane said.

"If you’re going through a spell where you’re not scoring, a couple of games here and there, you know you can do it at the highest level.

"It might be down to fitness as well. When teams are tired I exploit the space a bit more. In December, January I hit top form."

Aubameyang is in fantastic form, having scored 22 times in 33 games since joining the Gunners in January, including twice in Sunday's North London derby against Spurs, but Kane insists the Gabonese is just one of his challengers.

"Since I’ve been in the Premier League, it has had some of the best strikers in the world," Kane said. "Aubameyang is at the top end at the moment. There’s quite a few on eight or nine goals so it’s important for me to carry on doing what I’m doing.

"There’s still a lot of the season to go, but I’m happy with where I am."
