Tottenham will be able to take more than 1,500 supporters to Newport County for their FA Cup fourth-round tie on Saturday week, after the League Two club last night confirmed they will erect two temporary stands.

Spurs fans initially feared they would receive an allocation of fewer than 1,000 tickets for the match at the 7,850-capacity Rodney Parade, but that number has now risen to the maximum 1,660.

The away end will been boosted by a 600-seat temporary structure, while a second temporary stand, able to hold 1,072, will be erected behind the North Terrace for home supporters.

The stands are expected to nudge the capacity towards 10,000 and lead to a new record for a football match at the ground, currently standing at 7,326 for Newport’s League Two match against Notts County last season.
