Promised land: Spurs want to be back in the Champions League
Tom Collomosse15 August 2014

Whatever clever language they might use, the Spurs board always want the same thing: Champions League football.

The supporters are likely to be a little more forgiving this term if they can see an improvement in the quality of football on offer and believe they are being treated with more respect by the club. Fans were disappointed last term by the lack of communication from Tottenham about major issues — such as the new stadium — as well as the high ticket prices.

Yet good results and performances will put a smile on the face of even the most cynical supporter.

If Spurs managed a strong run in at least one of the cups and proved they were producing more home-grown players capable of performing in the first team, fans could accept failure to break into the top four.

How Mauricio Pochettino balances domestic and European football will be key to how his team do this year.
