Mauricio Pochettino says his Tottenham side are slowly looking to change history after their dramatic 2-2 draw with Liverpool.
Injury-time goals from Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane, who joined the Premier League 100-club from the penalty spot having already missed from 12 yards, added to a stunning strike from Victor Wanyama and an opener just three minutes in from Liverpool’s Egyptian talisman.
A lot has been made about Pochettino’s record away from home against their top-four rivals, and it is a subject the Argentine doesn’t much like addressing.
However, having salvaged a point after a shambles of a first half and Salah’s 91st minute goal, Pochettino says his side showed character and are on the verge of changing history.
"I was calm, relaxed. I am a little bit ill, I have a cold,” Pochettino told Sky Sports.
“But I think it was an amazing game to watch. Two teams that always try to play exciting football, I think we were much better after 90 minutes - I think we dropped two points.
"It was important, the character. When you analyse the game, it was always under control despite conceding the first goal. When you analyse the 90 minutes, Tottenham were much better.
"We always try to give our best. The team always shows personality and character. Today was a game we played for the win and to change history you need time."
On his striker becoming a Premier League centurion, Pochettino added that his achievement was never in doubt.
"It was never in doubt. Congratulations to him on scoring 100 Premier League goals."
