Tottenham ‘gloss over’ Dulux incident with Matt Doherty meme after tweets mocking lack of trophies

Tottenham have accepted an apology from their official paint supplier Dulux after a series of bizarre mocking tweets, joking they would “gloss over” the incident.

Spurs announced a new partnership with the company on Thursday, which Dulux’s official Twitter account marked by rattling off several subsequently-deleted tweets mocking the club’s lack of trophies. Another joked that the Dulux dog, the company mascot, “might do a better job” than the Spurs defence.

Dulux issued an apology later on Thursday afternoon, saying it was “deeply sorry” for the posts and would be “investigating what happened”.

Retweeting the apology, Tottenham’s official account added: “We’ll gloss over it this time…”

Further making light of the situation, the Spurs account also tweeted a picture of defender Matt Doherty with the Dulux dog photoshopped onto his face.

The picture in question was taken from a video of the defender sheepishly deleting old pro-Arsenal tweets after signing for Spurs from Wolves, which went viral last year.

Jose Mourinho was apparently in the dark in his press conference ahead of Friday’s trip to Everton. When he was asked about the Dulux dog, Mourinho replied: “What’s that?”
