Bournemouth defender Charlie Daniels has admitted that the Wembley pitch didn’t live up to expectations during their defeat to Tottenham.

With the surface at the national stadium under more strain than usual as Spurs use it as their temporary home, alongside events such as NFL in London, the pitch was noticeably worn ahead of kick-off and cut up easily in the second half.

Daniels, who rose through the ranks at Tottenham before leaving for Leyton Orient in 2009, told Standard Sport before the clash that playing at Wembley was something the Bournemouth squad would look forward to, however, admitted that the pitch could have been better.

“I think it could be better, I think everyone knows that – but that’s no excuse,” he said.

“You’re playing at Wembley so it doesn’t really matter.

“You expect it to be the best you’ve ever played on and it wasn’t great, we’ve played on a lot worse pitches.

“I’m sure they’ll get it right, they’ve had a lot of games on it and the NFL games so there’s no wonder it’s like that.

“It’s not quite Dean Court, that’s very good.”
