Former Tottenham midfielder Tom Carroll says he was 'frustrated' not to receive more game time at White Hart Lane this season.

Carroll, who is a product of the Spurs youth academy, appeared to be on the verge of becoming a regular after making a total of 30 appearances for Mauricio Pochettino's side last season.

But the 24-year-old was restricted to just six minutes of Premier League football before being deemed surplus to requirements and completing a permanent move to Swansea during the January transfer window.

Carroll has made a bright start to his Swans career, helping his new club secure nine points to climb away from the relegation zone, but remains disappointed he slipped down the pecking order in north London.

“Last year went well for me. We had a good season and I was involved quite a lot,” Carroll told Swansea's official website.

“But this season I didn’t really get the chances that I did last year. It was frustrating for me because I thought I had done well."

The form of Victor Wanyama and emergence of Harry Winks contributed to Carroll's demise, with competition for central midfield places fierce at Spurs.

But the 24-year-old holds no grudges against Pochettino and is grateful for an opportunity to work under the Argentine coach.

“He is a good guy and a top manager. I think he has helped me improve as a player.

"The work they do both in the gym and on the training field at Tottenham has made me a better player. I can only thank him for that," Carroll added.
