Crystal Palace fans have been waiting weeks to hear official news about their new manager.

Sam Allardyce stood down last month and Palace have taken their time appointing his successor, but the club have dampened shock speculation that Prime Minister Theresa May is set to land the job.

After Thursday's election ended in a hung parliament, Downing Street confirmed May would visit the Queen at 12.30pm on Friday in a bid to form a government.

The BBC's poltical editor Laura Kuenssberg tweeted: "Just officially confirmed - she'll go to Palace at 1230."

And managerless Palace responded brilliantly, clearing up any misunderstanding as they search for their own leader ahead of a new Premier League season.

Quoting Kuessenberg's tweet, the club added: "Please note: nothing's official until the club confirms."

Speaking last week, Palace chairman Steve Parish said: “We really want somebody who feels they can come in and help us improve the footballing side of the club over a long period of time."

Burnley manager Sean Dyche is under consideration for the job, while former Alaves boss Mauricio Pellegrino has been linked.
